A DIY Christmas

To save those pennies this Christmas, why not take to the sewing machine and get crafty with your own homemade decorations. From whimsical printed bunting to kitsch felt Christmas decorations, there are plenty of unique decorations that you can make yourself – get ideas by checking out the DIY & Crafts boards on Pinterest.

Minimalistic Décor

If space is quite limited in your home, you may prefer to keep it low-key with minimalistic décor. For smaller living areas, you may find that you don’t actually have space available to fit a Christmas tree, luckily many retailers have caught on to this problem and have created smaller Christmas trees that can conveniently fit into compact spaces. To save even more space, why not choose a ‘wall tree’, made from fabric featuring the outline of a tree, these space-saving trees can be easily hung to a wall and then you can decorate with everything from lights to baubles!

Keep it Traditional

Despite all the modern Christmas decorations available, many of us simply like keeping it traditional. There is nothing quite like surrounding a traditional fireplace with vintage inspired decorations such as stockings, and throwing tinsel here and there. To achieve that Christmas warmth, you will first need a fireplace. Many people associate Christmas with a wood-burning stove, however modern electric fires can achieve that traditional look too through the use of coal effects and grand surround detailing. Alternatively, if your home is heated by gas, quality balanced flue gas fires also provide that traditional look while offering great energy efficiency to warm your home all winter long.

A Winter Wonderland

Another favourite décor idea is to create your very own winter wonderland. An artificial tree with snowy white leaves and branches will set the tone for the rest of the décor. Continue the theme with silvery white baubles and tinsel, and a snow sprinkled wreath will look great hung on the front door. You could even complete that winter wonderland feel with little ornaments of snowy owls, penguins and polar bears – too cute!
