Gather your friends and family to celebrate the festive season in style but without breaking the bank this Christmas. For a really warm welcome, get your party started by greeting guests with a steaming cup of apple-scented mulled cider.
This recipe makes enough Merrydown Winter Warmer to serve 4 people.
One litre Merrydown Medium Vintage Cider
Splash of dark rum (optional)
4 cups of fruity herbal tea – orangey flavours go well
1 tblsp soft brown sugar
4 or 5 cloves
2 cinnamon sticks
2 fresh bay leaves
4 cardamon pods
Pour the Merrydown into a large saucepan. Add the sugar and stir until dissolved over a gentle heat. Stud each clementine with the cloves, then cut the fruit in half and add to the pan along with the cinnamon sticks, bay leaves and cardamom pods.
Heat until the almost boiling then ladle into heatproof glasses with handles.

Perfect with turkey
Forget Chardonnay with the turkey this year ….and enjoy a glass of chilled bottle of Merrydown Vintage Cider instead.
Merrydown is a true vintage cider – it has been made to the same traditional English recipe for more than 60 years. Merrydown uses only the juice of specially selected eating apples, which gives it a distinctive sweet sharpness. You’ll find Merrydown fantastically appley, light sparkling, and an appealing colour as you pour it into your best crystal glassware. Choose from Merrydown Dry, a sophisticated clean-as-a-whistle taste, or Merrydown Medium, a fruiter style of cider. Neither contain artificial sweeteners or colourings – it’s no wonder Merrydown tastes so good with the turkey!
The classy glass bottles won’t look out of place on your Christmas table, either – and for around £2.50 for a litre bottle you’ll be able to splash out on the brandy to set the pudding alight!
Please enjoy Merrydown responsibly. Drinkaware.co.uk.
