I have been meaning to watch the horror movie ‘Wolf Creek’ on DVD for a while now, and last night I finally got round to it. I borrowed the DVD from my sister as it was just one of those films that I always though looked OK but was never interested enough to actually buy. Imagine my surprise to find that despite a fairly low budget this was actually a pretty brutal and rather impressive movie!
It focuses on a group of friends who set out to Wolf Creek, a huge crater at the top of a hill. They climb to the top, take in the sights but when they reach the bottom they find that their car won’t start. They resort to spending the night huddled together in the back of the car but as they settle for sleep a mysterious (and quite freaky) truck driver offers them help. All they have to do is grab a lift to him back to where he is staying and he’ll give them the part they need for their car and fix it in for them. Here's a little word of warning that maybe they should have took heed of; if something sounds too good to be true it probably is!
Obviously the guy turns out to be a sick, psychopathic killer who drugs the kids and one by one subjects them to torture, this movie doesn’t exactly have you poised on the edge of your seat but what it does do very well is create a tense atmosphere and provides some pretty impressive makeup effects in places.
This is not the sort of movie you would watch over and over but I do have to give it credit for being a great interpretation of a true story.
I won’t be rushing out to buy my own copy of this movie but I’m definitely glad I took the time to watch it!
Girlie Gossip gives ‘Wolf Creek’ 3 out of 5 stars!
